前回に引き続いてアクセシビリティについてお話しします。
アクセシビリティとは、ＷＥＢでは、全ての人にとってのWEBの「利用のしやすさ」のことを指します。
とはいえ、「アクセシビリティ」と聞いただけでは、実際には今までのサイトとどう違うのか、そもそも今までのサイトでは何が駄目なのか？　といったことがよくわかりません。
ここでは、アクセシビリティに配慮すると、配慮していないホームページと何が異なってくるのか、を中心に経営者様に向けてわかりやすくお伝えできればと思います。
今回は、（３）使用技術についてお話します。

（３）使用技術：CSSという言語仕様を使用している

CSSとアクセシビリティの達成には深い関係があります。その前に、まずＣＳＳとは何かというところからお話しすることにします。

１．ＣＳＳとは
ＣＳＳとは、カスケーティングスタイルシート(Cascading Style Sheet)の略で、サイトの見た目（フォントサイズ・色・形など）を操作できるWEBプログラミングのひとつです。カスケーティングのCascadeとは「滝」という意味で、プログラムの仕様が名前の由来となっています。

２．今までと何が違うのか
・今までの技術−ＨＴＭＬ
今までのホームページは、文章もデザインもHTMLという言語で製作していました。
HTMLは、もともと文章を整理して記述するための言語です。しかし、インターネットが普及するにつれ、より効率的に情報を提供、または収集するために、整った文章の見た目が必要となりました。そこで、本来の目的とは別に、文章を整えるために開発された技術を、デザインを整えるために工夫して利用していたのです。
このことはさまざまな弊害を生み出しました。
・無理に作成しているため、ブラウザによって見た目がずれる
・記述が複雑なため、音声読み上げブラウザなどで、見た目と読み上げ順番が一致しない　等
また、見栄えの調整はHTML本来の目的ではないため、デザインの用途に使用することは避けられるようになってきました。

３．CSSとHTMLでホームページ制作
上記のような弊害を避けるため、CSSの使用が一般的になってきました。「フォント・長さ・高さ・色・背景・余白」などを、HTMLで記述しなくても、CSSだけで表現できるのです。HTMLは文章を書くため、CSSはデザインするため、という役割分担ができるようになりました。

このような過程でCSSが登場したわけですが、今、ＣＳＳが業界スタンダードとなっている理由、またアクセシビリティとの関連について、次回からいよいよお話ししていくことにします。
